Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL)
Beaford Primary School is proud to be recognised as a flagship school in the region for its commitment to the Outdoor Play and Learning (OPAL) programme, having won the prestigious Platinum Award on two occasions. This accolade places us among the top schools for outdoor learning, and we regularly welcome visitors from schools across the region who come to observe our programme in action.
Our outdoor spaces are carefully designed to inspire creativity, imagination, and problem-solving, with playtimes transformed into rich opportunities for learning and growth. Children engage in a variety of activities that encourage them to think independently, work collaboratively, and develop essential social skills such as sharing, negotiation, and communication. By providing an environment where children can explore and play freely, we help them build resilience, foster empathy, and develop a deeper connection to the natural world.
The OPAL programme has been instrumental in promoting not just physical activity but also emotional well-being. Through structured and unstructured play, our pupils develop confidence, leadership skills, and a sense of responsibility for themselves and others. Winning the Platinum Award twice highlights our continued dedication to excellence in outdoor learning, and we remain passionate about providing these experiences for our children.
As a school, we are constantly working to enhance our outdoor facilities and offer even more opportunities for learning through play, ensuring that Beaford pupils leave with the skills they need to thrive in all areas of life.
